In this temple of learning, the Department of History stands as a college within the college with maximum number of students, staff and academic programmes. It was started in 1965. Mr. C. Devadhas, M.A. (Hist)., M.A (Eco) was appointed in 1965 as the first professor and head of the department of both History and Economics. In 1967, based on the government policy and due to the rush from the students seeking admission to B.A. history, a parallel Tamil Medium B.A. History was also started.
